If you remove all impossible and improbable circumstances, then the residual "elementary" solution will be revealed.

How to solve a Kalkulu

Kalkulu is Esperanto and means work it out. In the puzzles you will find a column of letters and a row of numbers. Your job is to work out what numbers belongs to what letters. Any letter must have one value and two letters may not have the same value. The puzzles are to be solved by crossing out the impossible combinations in the grid and step by step narrow the amount of possible solutions until only one possible solution is left.

Every puzzle only have one correct solution. There are a list of conditions which must be met. The conditions can be equations, like A+B = C; or inequations like for example A > 1, A must be greater than 1; or C < 6, C must be less than 6.

The multiplikation symbol has been removed from the conditions. The equation 2A = EB, means 2 times A must equal E times B. If you are stuck in a puzzle it can be a help to examine if any of the equations could be combined to form new equations.

By logic thinking, creativity and a little patience is it possible to solve all the puzzles. They could be used as part of the math teaching for older children, but first of all they can be used by anybody who like brain teasers and at the same time would like to train the numbers and logic.
